2023 Summer Camps may have come and gone, but keep in touch as we’re always planning for the next year.
All of our camps are led by skilled pediatric occupational, physical and speech therapists and are designed to provide a supportive, small group experience. With a focus on peer interaction, communication, literacy, phonological awareness, fine and gross motor skill building, sensory play and life skills, our camps are designed to cater to your child's unique needs.

A camp centered around the use of small muscle groups in a child's hands, fingers, wrists and arms. Development of these muscle groups is crucial in creating functional fine motor skills that are needed to carryout everyday tasks including eating, grasping, dressing, cutting and writing.
Finally, a camp all about gross motor skills. Gross motor skills involve the larger muscle groups of a child's arms, legs and torso. Developing gross motor skills helps to build the foundation for achieving important milestones throughout a lifetime, such as crawling running and walking.
One of the most important things you can do as a parent is provide fun and interactive opportunities for your child. A camp built around sensory play is the perfect way to help your child explore and develop their senses. Achieving sensory organization will allow your child to use their five senses to process information from their surroundings and form an appropriate motor or behavioral response.
Buttoning, zipping, eating, dressing, shopping, cooking, cleaning and budgeting are just a few examples of how important life skills are in becoming a successful independent individual. Our life skills camp offers exposure and practice to daily living activities that are tailored to each child's specific needs.
Toddler Time Camp provides a collaborative atmosphere that engages both the child and their support system in the delivery of fine motor, gross motor and sensory play activities.
Our Early Literacy Camp will focus on the building blocks for learning to read and write. Functional skills targeted will include print motivation & awareness, vocabulary skills, letter knowledge, and phonological awareness. Fun and engaging activities will be used to promote interest and confidence with early reading skills!
Our phonological awareness camp is geared toward those students who may be a bit older than our early literacy learners, but could still benefit from working toward greater mastery of the speech sound skills required for reading and writing. In particular, engaging activities will be used to promote practice with blending, segmenting, and manipulating sounds in words. If your camper is struggling with decoding words and putting together sounds and/or still exhibits a few sound change errors this camp may be the right fit! (Note: students with significant speech sound disorders would be better suited to receive individualized speech-language therapy services).
Content of the social communication group will be geared toward the ages of our prospective campers and the social communication areas of interest expressed by their families. Possible focus areas may include
-Cooperative play
-Conversation skills: including selecting appropriate topics, staying on topic, balancing listening and talking turns, asking questions and making comments to show interest.
-Perspective taking: recognizing the thoughts and feelings of others based on verbal and nonverbal cues.
Did you know that an ability to effectively generate and retell organized narratives is critical for academic success? This camp is best suited for school-age students looking for an expressive and receptive language boost through practice with storytelling this summer.
A camp that does it all. Comprehensive Skills Camp touches upon all target areas including fine and gross motor skills, life skills and sensory play.
Meals are not provided at camps. When attending a camp at Function First Therapy we provide a healthy snack and campers are responsible for bringing a labeled water bottle with their name on on it.
Our camps are for everyone. We suggest participating in a pre-camp consultation with our therapists. This time is used to get to know your child so that we can place them into a camp that best fits them.
Our camps are held at a variety of places including at our clinic location and at local parks.
